Description

A Chinese late Qing Dynasty period red lacquer open bookshelf from the early 20th century, with two drawers, carved spandrels and geometric fretwork shelf. Created in China during the late Qing Dynasty period in the early years of the 20th century, this bookshelf showcases a dark red lacquered finish perfectly complimenting its clean lines. The bookcase features open shelves in its upper section, and two drawers in the center. Each drawer is fitted with ornate brass hardware with pierced pulls on oval backplates. Two discreet yet elegantly carved darker toned spandrels below connect the side supports to the drawers' underside. It is the lower section however, which attracts the eye with its low shelf adorned with fretwork geometric motifs.

The ensemble is raised on straight feet with additional carved spandrels. With its clean lines and subtle carved décor, this Chinese late Qing Dynasty period open bookshelf from the early 20th century will make for a wonderful addition to any home, particularly placed in a living room or a study.
